They were created in the low-lying areas only. With most of them on the eastern side n The leak has and the flow line has been put back into service n The area is being flushed with the water in the contaminated area n To date, 34 roll-off boxes (25 &20 yards) have been sent to Chemical Waste Management or are scheduled to go n Cut vegetation is being raked and placed in the roll-off boxes n 4 hazing cannons are being utilized during non-work hours. Flooding of the site continues. The site still has approximately 18 inches of water over it. Perimeter hard booms along with absorbent booms are deployed to contain the oil seeping from the existing trenches. This containment will remain in place until flood waters recede. It was observed that a considerable amount of oil had built up contaminating all the soft booms. It was also observed that soft of the oil was escaping the containment area. They discovered approximately ten new pockets of emulsified oil.  Most pockets contain anywhere from 2-10 gallons with a couple containing up to 2 BBLS. When including yesterdays discovery on the west side of the island we estimate there to be a total of approximately 10-15 BBLS of recoverable oil. OMI has the largest contaminated area contained (west side) and clean up is taking place with the use of snare, pads and shovels/bags. Three scare cannons are also on scene at that location.  They have been instructed to boom off the remaining pockets prior to securing today's operations. LA WLF is also on scene and instructed Hilcorp to place scare cannons every 100 yards throughout the contaminated areas. Throughout the island, there have been no reports of wildlife sightings. OMI currently has 30 personnel and 4 response vessels on scene and will add an additional 15 personnel and 4 vessels (2 air boats) starting tomorrow. Hilcorp will be conducting another over flight at 1500 and will update and submit a new IAP prior to the day's end. Houma PR team will be back on scene tomorrow morning. According to ES&H personnel, the area was an open marsh pond with floating water lilies, surrounded by cattails. During the initial cleanup efforts, ES&H was allowed to remove free floating aquatic vegetation, but all of the emergent vegetation had to be cleaned. By 2/19/2014, all of the lilies had been removed. After all of the lilies and floating oil/water had been removed, ES&H started pumping water into the marsh area. They are using sorbent pads to remove the product that is leaching out of the marsh soil. ES&H was still in this stage of cleanup as of 3/12/2014.
